Motivation tips for training on your own :)

It was not so long ago when I decided my dream was to become a contortionist, I literally dream about it very often. I am 25 years old. I know it is not too late, there are proffesional contortionists out there that started around my age. But the ones I know about went to China, hired a personal trainer or something similar. When I was young, I trained gymnastics, so I know the basics. When possible, I attend to yoga classes, but mainly I train alone at home because I don't have much money to…See More

Which is more common, Backbending or Frontbending?

I've always thought that frontbenders were way more common than backbenders - out of the general population, not necessarily contortionists. But I cannot find any information on this topic. When I took gymnastics, approximately 80% of the them were much more flexible forwards than backwards, which I noticed because I've always been the other way around (a backbender). Also in gym class at high school the same held true for both girls and boys - though the boys seemed to be very inflexible…See More

This morning, I was doing my yoga practice. For the last eight weeks in a "yoga boot camp" that my studio holds twice a week, we were working on hanumanasana, or front splits. I integrated that into my regular practice, but this morning, I was…Continue

Crumbs, is it over 3 years since my last post? As motivation, I thought I wouldn't post until I could actually *do* Kandasana. I didn't imagine it would take this long. Latest news is that I can do the position, it hurts, and I can't take my hands away, yet. However, progress is being made, albeit slowly, and I have learnt that you just have to take time after each session to allow the legs to recover. Lots of time. About a week. You might think it would be better to train less and more…

First improvement :-)

Posted by Silke on September 22, 2014 at 17:14 0 Comments

It's now almost 2 months since I started building up a training routine. I started with running and short stretching sessions end of july. The running part was just a little bit of running (max. 5 minutes at the beginning and not more than 13min in august) and a lot of walking in between.  The stretching part was about 15-30 minutes, sometimes up to 1 hour.

First 3 weeks of september I succeded to do my training for 5 days a week. Now I am able to run nearly 30 minutes without walking…
