I haven't stretched in ages! Well, I stretch all the time, but I haven't sat down and really 2 hours stretched in months. I really need to motivate myself... Any tips? ~Aldis

About Me
Hello, my name is Aldis.

My mother is a professional yoga teacher and has been teaching for most of my life.

I am naturally more flexible than the average person.

Over the past summer, the summer of 2008, I first learned about contortion, since then I have been teaching myself from home.

I set up a youtube channel a few months back and it has really helped me see how far I've come since the summer.

I'm still learning and have a hard time dedicating myself to daily practice, I know, I know, that's really bad!

If you have any tips please let me know!

Naughty-Titled Playlist of My Videos

This'll be a short one and is just to vent.

I just searched my username(dizbet) on youtube, and along with my videos I found a playlist consisting of all my videos, titled "flexi Dizbet slam her" and this is not by me but by someone under the username "dyebarrel".

Contortion Schdules/Regimes

Now, I'm not sure if I'm just lazy or not fully committed or whatever, but whenever I find a site with stretching advice or suggested practices or whatever, I get completely discouraged and totally intimidated.

I think I've slid backwards. Which I am beyond unhappy about.

My legs are really tight and it actually is slightly painful to sit in the split. Probably need to stretch more. Arrggg, I'm so mad at myself for letting myself go this far back.

I wish there was someone around here I could stretch with, I think that would help me a great deal! It doesn't help when I decide to watch professionals do it on youtube...they make it look so easy, like you're supposed to be able to sit on your head. Somet… Continue

Have just watched your vlog on You Tube. The yellow image issue is actually a very simple fix involving the "White Balance" of your camera. (You may have to browse through the instruction booklet or just muck with the camera menu's until you find it.) If you can find an option to turn auto focus off you can fix that issue as well. Very good vids by the way. Your flexibility is fantastic. And as for the comment mentioned in your recent blog post; total bloody rubbish. I'm a tad surprised YOUR worried about your weight. (Mind you, my sisters going through the same phase) You have a very good figure. Keep up the good work.

But if i remember correctly, you had an exceptionally cold winter this year... The winter here is kinda like Atlanta weather in the winter. So its really not that cold, but still cold enough... I remember reading in a few places, where people or monks who stay in the Himalayan mountain often sit with their legs behind their head to keep warm, which makes absolutely sense... But i still struggle to comprehend a society where people actually sit like that, whereas here, it would probably be seen as weird, or unnatural, or freaky...

That has been something that i have been wondering about for a long time, is which season different people prefer stretching in. And for me its quite a mix, because in the summer its just a lot easier to warm up and stretch, without having to fight the cold.. but then again, i do get a lot of stretching done in the winter, because it does keep me warm to some extent, but also, i take certain measure to help me stretch in the winter, for example the clothes i wear, first stretching under the blanket, etc... I guess in the winter, it just takes me longer to warm up, than it does in the summer... How do the seasons affect your stretching?

Yeah, i think in some places its known as a Swedish wall... I would love to have one of those two, but i have to admit that i probably wouldn't really know what to do with one if i had one... And i am pretty sure they don't give you an exercise and stretches guide with all the different stretches you can do on them... Rhythmic gymnasts use that wall really often and frequently, but there is no way in hell that i'll be able to do on that wall the same things they do, no way in hell!! But it does seem that it is probably the most versatile of the "bars" you can get...

Do you think the weather and humidity affect your stretching? I am still not sure about that one, because sometimes i feel a lot more flexible in humid weather, and other times i feel rediculously stiff...

I am staying for a few weeks at a friends place, so i haven't been able to get the stretching done that i would have like to, although i have been quite consistent the last couple of days. I am sleeping on the sofa, but it is quite a long sofa, which means that its great for doing splits on... And then for that extra increased stretch, there is the side of the sofa for the front foot... But using furniture is a great way to stretch, because what i also do is stretch straddles with my legs against the back of the sofa, and then on the sofa... It seems to work for me, because the floor at their place is quite dirty. The sofa is quite soft, so i don't delude myself into thinking that i am doing these great oversplits, because i know for a fact that i can't do them that high... but it certainly is great fooling yourself in that regard... do you ever use furniture when you stretch, or tables or chairs to get that extra dimension of stretching done?

But i am back home on friday evening, so quite looking forward to do some stertching on familiar teritory... This has been a long two weeks...

Tell me about dissapointing stretching dreams, wel the dreams aren't dissapointing, but the following day's stretching routine is... lol... Its funny how they progressed. because in the beginning it was never me who was doing any of the stretching, it was always someone else. And then as i progressed, it was me who was doing the stretching, but i could never stretch further in my dreams than i actually could. But now it seems that in my dreams i am doing stretching that i can't do now, such as middlesplits, and oversplits (well i can do that sorta now, but back then i couldn't)... And slowly backbends would appear, but the funny thing is that lately, all my stretching occurs in some kind of gym type setup, where there are exercise machines and squash courts, and everything... But i only have those dreams when i haven't stretched in awhile, its kind of a way reminding me that i need to get some stretching done, lol...

Thats pretty good! I am glad that you are getting back into the mix, because i looked at the pictures you posted recently, and they are seriously good!!! Its really a great mixture of frontbending, backbending, splits and leg behind head... So you definitely have the potential!!
