About Me
i have recently started practicng rhythmic gymnastic and contortion although i have done artistic gymnastics for just over a year and trampolining since i was four, i have also been practicing yoga for quite some tme as my mom teaches yoga.My flexibility is from hard work although i am hyper mobile in some of my toes(its odd but has been confirmed by a doctor)i also started diving(highboard not scuba) november 08
goals:
frontbending; to be able to get my torso flat on my legs when in pike completed september 09
new goal-to have feet behind head compteted 21/09/09
new goal-get past legs whe doing standing forward bend
back banding;be able to do a full chest stand with feet on floor
splits; have bigger over splits and get my centre splits

me starting out in contortion

this is my first blog so i didint really know what to write so i have decided to write about my first few shows and the things people at my school have said about them.

Thanks! I think it will even help the stretching, but at first i will probably have to be very mindful of the balance, because i am well aware of the risk that i face in overemphasizing one over the other. But i think this can also be the necessary spark that i needed in my traning program... I am actually looking forward to this!

Well, what i am trying to go for is a balance, so that probably means properly stretching out after training, because also the position i play, i am going to need a lot of leg strength, so i already know what training i am going to do, and the body position this position demands. But you often hear how people seem to choose between strength and flexibility, where guys often go for strength and then girls go for flexibility. But there is a middle road, so you don't have to choose the one over the other... I think my biggest fear is that if i do more of the one, the other one will be neglected... Ps i play scrumhalf...

I want to ask you something, and you seem to be the perfect person to ask this. I am going to start playing rugby again, so the first thing that i have to do is work on my fitness. This not only means working on endurance and stamina, but also on speed, and strength. Although i am still rather scared that this will negatively impact my stretching. What do you think? Do you think this could be a potential problem and what can i do so that working on strength doesn't negatively impact flexibility. One thing that rhythmic gymnasts don't get credit for how strong they are. They are rediculously flexible, but they are also rediculously strong, the same with artistic gymnasts who are crazy strong, and also have a lot of flexibility. I think what i am asking is how can i balance the two?

PS congrats on getting so close on your centresplits! It is a milestone!!

THanks for posting a message. My centre splits are coming a long great! But what also happend, is that they also improved the moment i stopped obsessing about them. I think i put too much pressure on them and on myself to get them, that the moment that i started to ease up, the got a lot better very quickly... I often get reminded that even though i want to achieve something quickly, i have to be patient too... It just doen'st happen over night...

How has your stretching been? You have been progressing really fast, but its often difficult to maintain the pace of progression...

I thought that i have tried everysingle stretch for middlesplits, but this seems really good! I will give it a try and see how it goes... I often use a softer surface, which makes it a bit easier, but its awhile back that i started working on my middlesplits on the hard floor, which helped tremendously. Although the hard floor is a lot more uncomfortable, it does work a lot better, and gives a way more accurate meassure of how far i am from the splits, than using a sofa, or a matress... But i have also been doing a lot of straddles, and as you said, straddle forward fold... those are pretty good, those stretches have helped me tremendously!

my centre splits are actually getting really close... And i always say that i am improving, and that isn't a lie, but i have really been consistent and dilligent the last couple of weeks, and i think i am really making tremendous progress. I should probably take a picture of it soon, just as a reference point... But i am also starting to use the hard floor for stretching the centre splits. I often used softer surfaces, and i can feel an immense difference... You often hear how they say that to improve your splits, you should use your hands to support yourself that much, because that way your hands are prventing you from going deeper into the splits... And i have been thinking about that, and i am slowly starting to lift my hands... That added pressure and gravity pull on the legs does make a huge difference...
