I always ease up when I feel intense pulling. Usually after a week of icy-hot and mild stretches it works out. I also ease up when ever I fall on my head but thats for a totally different reason... m…

Its really great that you are feeling like you are making progress, there is nothing worse than that feeling of being stuck at a certain, and not knowing how you are going to get to the next point. Thats really a very dangerous place to be, because one of two things will often happen: 1) you get discouraged, which affects your motivation, which affects your stretching time, which means you don't progress, which means you get more discouraged... Its a negative cycle. 2) you try to force stretches and thats when you injure yourself. What i find works best in this situation is just to try new stretches, just to try new counting strategies, just to try something new or different. That often helps, just stretching in a different place, or trying a different technique...
I am realy glad you are enjoying the ballet! Its often a lot more fun doing something like this when you are older, because you are probably wondering why you didn't start doing ballet when you were younger, but its completely different back then. It seems that anyone who does ballet at the age of 10 is either way to serious about it or has proffesional ambitions. Those exams are strict and the mentality is not really condusive for fun. Thats just the impression i got from that, and the movie centre stage, where the girl starts having fun again, and improves her desire to dance... Or something to that effect...
Your middles were already pretty dang far, and that was before you made the improvements, so congrats on that!!
How are things going for you? You will probably have your middle splits down any day now!
The biggest problem of injuries is that they happen, whehter you want them of not, whether you try to prevent them or not. But i do think that statistics will show that more contortion related injuries come from stretching, rather than those that are not stretching related. The injuries i have had the last couple of times have all been non-stretching related, which is probably a lot worse, because they do affect your stretching, but they aren't a result of your stretching. But i am overly cautious, had the torn hip flexor before, and the injured hamstring, so i don't want to relive that rehabilitation. Took way too long to heal...
Its really great that you enjoyd the ballet. I did a hobby for awhile, and stopped, because people were taking it way to serious, especially for a hobby. They were really strict about attending training, there was a minimum you had to attend a month, and there were 3 trainings a week, 1 on tuesday evenings from 6-9, thursday evenings from 6-9 and saturday mornings from 9-1. And they took it way too serious, and i can understand why, because technique is important, etc. But i was doing my third year of my bachelors at the time too, and i just had other things i had to do and wanted to do. I was also the youngest there, everyone else were in their 30's or late 20's, so they had jobs already, and a stability that i was nowhere near having, i was 22 at the time. I gave that up and i would love to give it a go again at a later stage. But at some point it just wasn't fun anymore... I had to stop, because the next year i started my honnours (postgrad thing), and all my courses were in the evening, so i had to stop, there was no way of making that minimum attendance. That was also my roughest studying year, had to do 13 modules in 1 year, which means that the first semester had 7 courses and the second had 6 courses, which had me on campus every evening, from monday to thursday...
I had a great stretching session yesterday, those middles have really been improving this week. I have learnt not to get too excited about middles, because day they are close and the next, its as if i haven't stretched a day in my life! Its that bad... So yesterday was great, i really felt so close, and this time i can say the closest i have ever been. But the tricky part is always repeating that the next time... So before i post a blog on it, i'd rather just wait this time, and see how it goes...
How is your flexibility fitting in with the ballet class, i am pretty sure that you fit right in with your already impressive flexibility...
I am glad to hear that interaction hasn't prevented you from coming here, because it has happend in the past. Not on this site, but there are plenty of stories. But his account seems to have dissapeared, because it turns out it wasn't just on your wall that he posted something quite inappropriate.
But did you enjoy the ballet? Do you think this is something you can really get into? I think the first class is really important, and often the biggest factor whether you stay or whether you go. I did a few sports in my time, and that first class always indicated whether i would keep at it, or give it up over a few months... Some people should be instructors and others shouldn't...
What are your study plans for when you go to college? Have you given that much thought? [i suspect you have, you seem quite thorough in that regard]. Oh, and thank you for posting monosylabic sentences when you respond to my questions. I great appreciate it, because some people just reply with the basics, i often wonder why they bothered... So thank you!!
I am definitely not going to try and "show off", although its also because i have quite lopsided flexibility, there are areas that i work on too much and other areas that i completely neglect. That is really why i am actually looking forward to joining a yoga class, just for those exercises and stretches i don't feel like doing, or don't put any effort in. Its hard to avoid the stretches you don't like in yoga, you have to do them sooner than later...
I saw what the german quy posted on your wall, i hope that hasn't deterred you at all... It could be quite daunting, especially when you aren't suspecting that at all... For a lot of people, that would have convinced them that the internet is a bad place... And it happens quite often in this side of the internet.contortion interest world. There have been too many stories, so if you ever feel that your privacy is being invaded, or that you feel uncomfortable, contact the administrators, i am sure that they also want what is best for everyone... So on that note, you did seem to handle it quite well...
Good luck with that adult beginners ballet class! I am sure you will do great. I don't think i would ever be able to do that, and its mostly because i can't dance to save my life...
I have been threatening to join a yoga class for ages now, and i think before this month is over, i will have joined a class. It will be in the beginner class, which i don't mind. I don't mind working my way up, plus, it might just be good to start with the basics first, rather than trying to start with the more difficult stretches. That is often one of my big problems with people who want to start yoga to get flexible, but want to do all the difficult asanas immediately. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way, and yoga isn't all about flexibility either. Sure, those asanas look impressive, and it must feel great to be able to them, but there is more to it...
There is a youtube clip of Anna Bessonova doing yoga, it was for a television show. She is a rhythmic gymnast, and has won 2 bronze medals at the Olympics, although she was the favourite going into the Beijing Olympics, Evgenia Kanaeva just came to dominate, and i suspect that she might probably be one of the greatest rhythmic gymnast yet, considering she is only 19 years old, she as 18 when she won gold, from Bessonova, who is vastly more experienced. Anyway, Bessonova was on this tv show and was part of the yoga demonstration, but you can see that she is just too flexible for it, she just flops, you can just see how her legs drop into these rediculous oversplits, and in a sense, how she actually makes the exercises look rediculous...
Have you ever thought of keeping a stretching diary?
