About Me
Hi everyone! I'm a young boy from Barcelona, Spain. I'm 16 (almost 17). Three years ago I joined a theater company (I'm still in) and we used yoga as a way to relax, and concentrate. Since then I discovered that I was a bit more flexible than the other boys in the company. I was able to put my foot over my head! (for me that was awesome!).
Later, I discovered the Limbermen's webpage (wich I'm a fan of) and there I saw that males were also able to do contorsionism. So I started to try to backbend. In three months (without exercising a lot) I was able to backbend with my foot on my head and a bit more. The moment when my feet touched my head was incredible! I thought: OH! I CAN DO SOMETHING THAT ANY OF THE PEOPLE I KNOW CAN DO!
I exercised for almost six months more and I improved, but I don't know why, I left contorsionism....
Now, I can put my foot over my head (by frontbending), but nothing more... And I wish I could contort myself as before...
And it's because of that that I'm here... If you, extraordinary contorsionists (believe me, you are amazing!) could give me some tips on how to start again, I would be really pleased.

The felling you have when you are bent yourself is great! I would like to backbend again, and if it's possible, to improve a lot!!!! Oh my god! I would like to contort like Clifton Gerry!!!! haha!

Hi Jorge! If you want to start back bending again you can start with a bridge and slowly edge your feet closer to your hands. If you can bend at least 90 degrees backwards trying to balance on your elbows and limber over is a good exercise as well as walking a handstand down a wall. A more advanced stretch would be laying on your stomach and kicking your feet over your head and laying them flat on the floor. However since you're starting out again I suggest slow progressions that will build not only flexibility but strength and balance as well. Be sure your stretches include passive as well as active mechanics. Avoid ballistic movement at first, cause that's how you hurt yourself. There's lot of articles available on passive and active stretching, but just try to set small goals and progressions and most importantly have fun.
