How are you? How has your new found motivation been? Its always tricky in the beginning, but always well worth it in the end. What often helps me, is just thinking about how fast time flies by, that its already half way through the year, and if i had spend that time effectively stretching, there is no way of knowing how far i would have been today...
I probably would have been a lot more flexible today had i known back then what i know today, and by this i mean basic stretching technique, and patience. I think had your introduction to frontbending been different, you really would have succeeded, but then again, i do understand that backbending si the more glamourous of the stretching world.
My biggest problem with backbending was that i was too scared to injure myself as a result of not know how to stretch and what to do. But i have been doing a lot of research into it, and it seems that if you do it safely and consistently, that there shouldn't be any reason why not to work on back flexibility. I set myself the goal of middlesplits, that once i have them, i'll have no excuse not to work on backbending...
I am sure you have tried middlesplits. How did it go when you tried?
Thanks! Although its difficult to explain flexibility and why and when you suddenly improve and why at different stages progress is quite slow. And thats basically what happend with my middlesplits, because they were miles away at one point, and that wasn't even that long ago.
But motivation is very important, and its really difficult for a lot of people to stay motivated. One reason is that a lot of people have rediculously or unfairly high expectations, and when they don't achieve their cheststand in a week, they give up. I don't think thats the case with you, as you have persisted long enough in achieving a good backbend, even your pike was pretty good, it showed good hamstring flexibility, so you certainly did achieve a fair bit... What are you going to try to do differently this time? There are a few ways to stay motivated, but it also requires a personal commitment too... I find it easier to stay motivated when i am having fun stretching, but at the same time is it also important to find the necessary time to stretch. When i was in school weekends were really the only time of the week that i could consistently stretch, during the holidays i would try and make up time, and some afternoons i would try doing homework and stretching, but that seldomly worked for me, because either i am stretching or i am doing homework, i can't do both, lol...
I have to admit that i thought you'd always be able to touch your toes, because you seemed to have quite a lot of natural frontbending talent, aside from that backbend that you had(!!!), seriously good! but are you going to do some stretches differently this time around? I think that injury probably set you back more than you could have hoped for... Sometimes taking a break from stretching is a good thing, especially when you have an injury that needs some nursing too... A few years ago i had to give up stretching for about 7 months, and it was probably the best i could have done, because i just needed to leave it alone and let it heal... no when i stretch, i always warm up, and i always pace myself, so the injury did set me back, but it did teach me a lot in the process, especially the importance of doing it right...
so what is your game plan for now?
How have you been? Have you really stopped completely? or do you try so every now and then just to do a couple of stretches, even if just for a minute, or a moment?
How have you been otherwise?
