About Me
I have found a hidden passion for contortion within myself through some strange circumstances. I am madly in love with contortion and am striving to become the best I possibly can. I have had no professional help, although now that I am leaving for college, I might have a better chance at that.

I'm looking for both friends and professionals who have advice to give, as well as a stretching partner or group.

I find that when I do contortion, it calms me. When my world is out of balance, contortion brings everything back into focus for me. It is my form of meditation.

I also do modeling and hope to expand my horizons through contortion modelings.

Note: You might also notice I do most of my training in a weird looking basement. It's actually the basement of my parent's hardware store. I don't have the space for contortion anywhere else, so I make due. You know what they say: Life will find a way.
My flexibility is...
...through training/practice.
I practice ...
...frontbending, ...backbending
Discipline(s)
actual contortion, yoga, martial arts

Sickness and Stretching

I recently came down with a pretty terrible cold, and yesterday my friends and family drug me to the hospital (kicking and cussing, I shamefully admit. I'm too stubborn sometimes) where they pumped 2000CCs worth of fluids and antibiotics into me via IV.

I haven't done any contortionism in about 5 days, and my back is absolutely killing me. I can neither bend backwards, OR forwards without it being extremely painful. My boyfriend suggested that I do a little bit of stretching to loosen it up and… Continue

Stall Bars!

So I finally found some plans to make my own Stall Bars. Sorry, I'm a college student working my way through school, I don't have the funds to drop a couple hundred bucks on something like that.

I wonder if my roommates will mind if I bolt this thing to the wall in my room? Or maybe I can devise a kind of stand for it. Something that makes it easier to transport or store, and I don't have to go touching up any holes in the walls if I move out.

If anyone is interested in the plans, check them o… Continue

We'll contortion is also goal oriented, but atleast no one has ever said that you shouldn't atleast try just because you can't sit on your head. And that is an impressive goal, but its not like you will be turned away from contortion just because you can't...

I am not a morning person either, so i have tried stretching in the mornings, but its not that easy for me at all... I can barely function, even less focus on stretches... So i stretch in the evenings too, its just a lot easier for me, and by the time i get started stretching, the day is almost over, but for those minutes, or hour, sometimes more, its all i am doing... So i prefer having that time just for stretching, instead of having to wonder what else i have to do, or rush through stretches so that i can get to some other activity... I haven't got natural flexibility, so i have t owork at it, which means that i have to focus on each stretch, and really work my way towards positions and stretches... I focus on breathing when i stretch, so i often go with counts when i hold stretches, so that varies depending on my breathing, but i try to go for 15 breaths per stretch, and rotate them a couple of times... Whenever i feel really stiff, the basics usually help me getting started again, and its really those PE stretches, and for me they really help.

What do the people around you say about your flexibility? Do they ever comment on it, or is it pretty much accepted by now that that is what you do... People tend to get quite desensitized by seeing people stretch when they see it too often... I still think that everybody should be stretching, aside from the general physical benefits, but also in the feel-goods that stretching provides...

Thanks for posting your story, its really inspirational. Its still great that you got to discover contortion like that, even though it probably wasn't pleasant at times. And thats really the great thing about contortion, is that its really so accepting of all different shapes and sizes and levels of flexibility. A lot of people seem to think that you have to be able to sit on your head before it can be called contortion, and that is not true at all... Contortion is really a journey, and its great that you have found such peach and comfort in contortion. Especially at the end of a difficult day, its really a great way to unwind, and just relax... I may not be that flexible, but i still find it a great way to end the day, especially while there are all these thoughts and ideas that swarm around, stretching has been the one thing that i have found that just helps me to shut down completely, and for how long it is that i am stretching, that is all that i am doing. A lot of people say multi tasking while stretching is the proper route, reading and stretching , or watching television and stretching, but i prefer just stretching, because that way i am just focussed on that... How do you schedule your life around stretching, or as it is in most cases, how do you schedule stretching around your life?

Welcome Stella! It's wonderful to see you here. I hoped after moving to Kansas that I'd find others interested in contortion and you are the first! Great photos, and hopefully a successful career will follow.

Hi Stella!

You have amazing flexibility! Your pictures are really good, and i can't help wondering how you got started. Did you start out with yoga? It seems that a lot of gymnasts and dancers move over to yoga when their bodies aren't able to keep up with the demands, so yoga is a good alternative then. The same with a lot of dancers who do yoga, so there are always people who move from one flexible discipline to another... And with your great flexibility, i can't help wonder how got to be as flexible as you are...
