to answer your question, i was a dancer for many years, so always pretty flexy, then stumbled upon circus classes when i was 12, and now i've been apart of it for 10 years. it was only a couple of years ago tho that i started performing contortion... i was more like a fill in act in our shows when something was going wrong with a "quick, go out there and distract them with something freaky!" :P
so now i do it for a living, both teaching and performing, and i absolutly love it :)
my training is kinda slackening off at the moment, cause i'm in rehersals for a show, so it's kind of walking through a million different routines it's good fun though :)
and how is your training going? :D
Thanks, pictures are nice because they were done by my friend who studies photography and she asked me to be her model ;) (some kind of project I think).
Ehh I don’t really think that my back is bendy but I see improvement almost every time I stretch so maybe one day….I want to do a chest stand…and right now it just seems impossible…I mean how I am supposed to get my legs so high? I can't liftem them and I have no idea how to jump into a chest stand :D
Ehh as for the frequency I had to take a break from stretching as muscles on my right side of lumbar went into spasm…Just lovely…It hurt like hell.. Turns out that a vertebra moved a little bit too much and was putting pressure on a nerve…And my SI joint was killing me as well…Ehhh…. Everything is better now, but I had to visit a chiropractor…Too much mobility sucks sometimes :/.
As for your question – temperature doesn’t affect my stretching…never did…I heard that it’s supposed to be easier when the temperature is higher but it just doesn’t work like that for my body…
And I’m soo angry with my yoga teacher right now that I will agree that she doesn’t give me enough credit.. and she does hold me back…and I need a break from her…
And how is your training going? How long do YOU stretch a day, hm? I take it that it gets harder for you in winter? You do more warming up or you need to stretch longer because of temperature?
Ugh, I cannot even imagine stretching for three hours a day. Usually an hour and a half is all I can manage, and that's scattered through dance class, musical theater class, and home. I should probably try for two hours a day, but three is out of the question.
I'm sixteen, which nobody ever seems to guess, because apparently I look younger and act older. Eh, I'm not complaining.
I completely agree with the take opportunities as they come thing. But, having a plan doesn't really hurt either.
Hey, if you go to yoga, you can talk about stretching with people! Seriously, nobody's going to be rude about you going to a class, and if they are, they're just completely ridiculous and are ruining the whole spirit of yoga.
I don't spend as much time as I should, haha! I usually spend about an hour a day or so. Sometimes a bit longer, and sometimes I skip days at a time, but it probably averages out to an hour a day. What about you?
I don't really know if I want to go professional. I mean, it would be really nice to do on the side and to help out with college, but after that... I'm not sure. I sort of want to cook, I sort of want to be a psychiatrist, and I sort of want to contort. Haha, I'll figure it out eventually.
My surrogate sister is a contortionist, but we don't really talk about it a lot. I mostly keep to myself, except for I do practice in dance- barres are really helpful for me when I'm bending, just as something to help me stay balanced. What about you?
Jeeze what was this hobby? It sounds so intense.
wow, that's great. I'm so happy for you! Just last week I made some progress in my middles. I managed to drop into them in a 1/2 count! obviously it wasn't as far into them as i would want them to be but pretty dang far!
Haha I'm actually taking to ballet really well. It's getting to be a lot easier to do all the moves.
PS- Sorry I have such short replies this messege it's Thanksgiving and i keep getting distracted. HA
I would totally join a class! I'm actually lucky enough to have an amateur circus group a few cities away from me, called [I think] Theater Bizarre. A close friend of mine goes there to work on her contorting, firebreathing, fireeating, and firedancing. I still haven't gone, mostly because it's a VERY tight-knt group and they're all at least five years older than me, but I might end up there sometime.
Would you join a class?
But you're right. I'm unfortunately really impatient with my body, so I'm just like "WORK DARN YOU" instead of actually doing what I'm supposed to. It doesn't work so well, surprisingly enough.
I've always wished I could frontbend! What are some of the easier poses of frontbending?
This is so embarassing- there used to be this show on some kid's channel called Figure It Out, and it was all these kids with really weird talents. And when I was about six, I wanted to be on the show. So I tried to figure out what my weird talent was. After a few minutes, I discovered I could backbend, and I never stopped. So that was the beginning, but I never pushed it. Then, one day when I was at a friend's house, I ran full-tilt into her bed, flipped over, and ended up in a chest stand. I'm still not entirely sure how that happened, but I'm glad it did :]
What about you?
-Karl
